sierra-nevada-brewing-co-logoThe Sierra Nevada Brewing Company was founded by Ken Grossman and Paul Camusi in 1980 in Chico, California where it still stands today. Things didn’t start out to smooth for the new brewery after dumping 9 batches of their Pale Ale at $1000 a pop, Sierra Nevada released their first beer in 1981. The Sierra Nevada Pale Ale has become their flagship beer and is distributed in most U.S. states. Sierra Nevada also brewed a Porter and a Stout in the early days of the brewery and are still brewing those styles today. One thing that has set Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. apart from other conventional businesses is the fact that they have never done any type of test market research for the beers they brew they simply brew what they like and what they feel is a great product. Well guess what, they are right about the market they are selling to all the time. The beer community has really taken to Sierra Nevada and their brewing philosophy and continue to enjoy, write, blog, and record about all of their great beers, just as we are now.

In the late 90’s Sierra Nevada expanded their brewing capacity and built a larger brewing facility with a restaurant incorporated into the floor plan. Another thing that Sierra Nevada did to the new brewery was to ad solar panels over the brewery and restaurant to generate close to 80% of all the electricity needed to power the brewery. So not only do they brew great beer but they think green as well.

We have enjoyed many of Sierra Nevada’s wonderful beers and can’t wait to see what will happen in the next 30 years.
